The Mahindra XUV700 is the second new SUV launched by the Indian brand in Australia, following the off-road focused Scorpio. With plans for more SUV releases, Mahindra aims to establish itself as a leading SUV brand in the Australian market.
Packed with standard features and an upmarket looking interior for a sub-$40,000 price tag, the XUV700 should go some way to achieving that aim.
Trialling the Everest White Mahindra XUV700, the spacious and inviting cabin was the first thing to note, followed by the impressive 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and matching 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
The interface provided easy access to navigation, music, and vehicle settings, allowing us to customize our driving experience with just a few taps.
The sense of space is enhanced by the enormous panoramic sunroof and wood-like trim. A 12-speaker SONY stereo system and driver’s memory seat function in the up-spec AX7L model are also part of the features list.
While the front and second rows are spacious and comfortable (with air vents and a USB-C port for second row passengers), the third row is really only suitable for non-teen children, space-wise.
Rear boot is limited with seven passengers but can be expanded by folding one or both third row seats down.
Standard safety assist features include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, reversing camera, post-collision braking, six front, front-side and curtain airbags.
The XUV700 AX7L adds blind-spot view monitor, surround-view cameras, knee airbag and adaptive cruise control with stop/go.
The seven-seater is offers as a front-wheel drive with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, making 149kW at 5000rpm and 380Nm between 1750 and 3000rpm mated to a six-speed transmission.
It’s not the most powerful SUV on the market, and is limited by the front-wheel driver, but it’s not found wanting for busy city-suburban driving and will quickly reach required speed on the freeways.
Mahindra also recently released a special higher-spec ‘Vlack Edition of the XUV700 AX7L for $43,990 drive-away. It features black gloss paint, black 18-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out front grille, black synthetic leather-look upholstery, dark chrome trim on the steering wheel, interior door handles, air vents and gloss black interior accents.
