As the countdown to the end of the EV FBT Discount for PHEVs in April 2025 looms*, it's more important than ever for buyers to consider their options in the hybrid space. Enter the Mazda CX-60, the brand's first-ever plug-in hybrid, arriving at a pivotal time.

What does it come with?

The Mazda CX-60 PHEV arrives as a well-equipped midsize SUV, reflecting Mazda’s intent to push into more premium territory. Standard features include 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The GT trim, paired with the optional Vision pack, adds luxuries like nappa leather seats, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and advanced safety tech like front cross-traffic alert. The CX-60 PHEV also comes with a generous suite of driver assistance features.

What's the interior like?

Inside the CX-60 PHEV, you're greeted by a cabin that oozes premium appeal. The attention to detail is evident, from the soft-touch materials to the diamond-stitched perforated leather seats. The optional SP package further elevates the interior with tan nappa leather, giving the cabin a touch of luxury typically reserved for higher-end models.

The design is both functional and stylish, with intuitive controls and a spacious layout that comfortably accommodates five passengers. The CX-60's interior is as much about aesthetics as it is about comfort, ensuring that long drives are a pleasure rather than a chore.

What powers it?

The CX-60 PHEV combines Mazda's 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor, resulting in a total output of 241kW and 500Nm. The electric motor is powered by a 17.8kWh battery, offering up to 76km of electric-only range. Despite its weight, the CX-60 PHEV delivers impressive acceleration, with a 0-100km/h time of just 5.8 seconds. This powertrain allows the SUV to handle both city commutes and highway journeys with ease.

What's it like to drive?

It's quick off the mark and offers the convenience of electric-only driving for short distances. The all-wheel-drive system provides good grip, and in Sport mode, the SUV feels muscular and responsive. It is a serene cabin so long trips or sitting in traffic in the city make for comfortable trips. For those who prioritise economy, the PHEV is the ideal choice.

How safe is it?

Mazda has equipped the CX-60 PHEV with an extensive suite of safety features, earning it high marks in terms of occupant protection. Standard safety tech includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency braking. The optional Vision pack further enhances safety with a 360-degree camera and front cross-traffic alert, making city driving and parking less stressful.
