There was a big American sporting game on yesterday but most of the attention was directed to the ads and Katy Perry’s left shark.
It’s the most highly anticipated day of advertising of the year and a 30 second spot during the game costs a casual $4.5 million.
The ads are often disruptive, sometimes controversial, and always entertaining.
Here are a few of our favourites.
This ad caused an international freak out as football fans were tricked into thinking their cable was cutting out. Cruel? Perhaps. Ingenious? Definitely.
Nick Offerman aka Ron Swanson stars in this clever ad imploring Americans to stop being so soft and get some NASCAR in their lives. Since airing, this ad has coeliacs and hipsters up in arms for a comment made about gluten and a change.org petition has already been started.
On a more serious note, this Public Service Announcement was based on a real 911 call where a victim of domestic violence called 911 under the guise of ordering a pizza. It’s a powerful ad even without any actors - just the dialogue.
We'll just let this ad speak for itself...
One thing we loved about this ad was how a content marketing campaign was integrated into it. The ad was released in the week prior to the Super Bowl but T-Mobile had something extra up their sleeve for Game Day.
A dedicated campaign page featured extra videos and a special feature where fans would connect with T-Mobile on Facebook or Twitter to receive a selfie from Kim’s collection.
This ad has it all. Snoop Dogg? Check. The voice of the parrot from Aladdin? Check. Said voice screaming at his pants? CHECK.
Everyone who knows that hangry is a real emotion will love this one.
Is it just us, or is The Brady Bunch making a comeback? First, Marcia is one of the celebs on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, and now whole family is back...but not as you remember them.
